The World Resources Institute

The World Resources Institute is a global environmental think tank that goes beyond research to put ideas into action. WRI works with governments, companies, and civil society to build solutions to urgent environmental challenges. WRI’s transformative ideas protect the earth and promote development because sustainability is essential to meeting human needs and fulfilling human aspirations in the future.

New Ventures is the World Resources Institute’s center for environmental entrepreneurship – providing business development services to environmentally-focused small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in six of the world’s most dynamic emerging markets: Brazil, China, Colombia, India, Indonesia, and Mexico. New Ventures addresses the key barriers to “green” entrepreneurial growth by building in-country support networks for environmental enterprises and increasing their access to finance. The mission of New Ventures is to empower environmental entrepreneurs in emerging markets to develop market-based solutions that protect Earth’s environment and its capacity to provide for current and future generations. Founded in 1999, New Ventures has worked with 255 innovative enterprises whose goods and services produce clear, measurable environmental benefits, such as clean energy, efficient water use and sustainable agriculture, and often address the challenges experienced by the world’s poor. Through our approach to business development and our links to investors around the world, New Ventures has facilitated more than $203 million in investment since its inception.

The GHG Protocol Initiative, a decade-long partnership between the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, is working with businesses, governments, and environmental groups around the world to build a new generation of credible and effective emissions accounting and reduction programs for tackling climate change.
